ESL PROGRAM
The English as a Second Language (ESL) program serves tri-Creek students from several language backgrounds. ESL services are provided for those students who qualify based on an English language proficiency test. The ESL program is federally mandated and ensures equal access to the schools’ instructional programs for those students who have limited English proficiency.
At the elementary level, ESL students are assigned to mainstream classrooms and, in addition, participate in small group instruction designed to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. At the secondary level, ESL students also enroll in mainstream classes, as well as, participate in mainstream electives. The scheduling of classes is based on the grade level and English language proficiency of the ESL student.
