Spring is in the air!

From this perspective, there appears to be little going on inside the new Lowell Middle School, but I assure you, there is a lot going on!!! The contractors are busy little bees!

The New Lowell Middle School is taking shape!
Another aerial view looking toward the north. The main gym is located in the lower center of this photo.

Academic areas on the right side of this photo and the gym, locker rooms, music, and choir on the left side. In the center, where the two sections meet, is the main entry to the office.
In the center of this photo, where you see dirt in the middle of the roof structure, is the new media center. In the area where you see the dirt, a large skylight will allow the natural sunlight to shine inside the media center making the entire room nice and bright (when the sun is shinning).

A birds-eye view!
Enough of the aerial pictures! You have waited long enough! We are now going to explore what's really going on inside your new middle school!

This picture clearly shows how tall this crane really has to be in order to lift all of the heavy beams that are used to build the new LMS.

42 We talked about the "big heaters" that have been keeping the new middle school warm throughout the cold winter months. These heaters run 24 hours a day, everyday during the winter. These heaters also keep all of the construction workers warm so they could continue to work and build your new school.
You don't want to put your hands directly in front of this heater! 41
44 This picture shows you all of the pipes that will be buried under the concrete floor. These pipes are the electrical pipes that will protect the wire supplying the electric for the lights, wall outlets, heating units, fire alarm system, computers, etc. The two horizontal bars running across the conduit pipes help hold the pipes in place when the concrete floor is poured.
Just like the electrical pipes, there are many plumbing pipes that will be located below the concrete floors. This picture is within the new kitchen area. This will be where all of the cafeteria food is prepared. These drain lines will be used for all of the sinks, dish washing equipment, and refrigeration units within the kitchen area. Do you see the electrical conduit that will be buried under the concrete floor? 25
37 This picture shows the beginning of a wall that will divide two rooms. In the background, you can see the two door frames side-by-side. This metal track will hold the bottom of the metal studs that make up the wall.
This photo shows a completed wall section that includes a door. The ceiling tiles will be positioned about 16" above the top of the door frame. This gives you an idea of what lies above the ceiling tiles! Do you see the copper water pipes, electrical conduit, and the structural steel trusses for the roof? 31
35 Inside this wall there will be a sink! The drain of the sink is connected to the little white pipe in the center of this photo. The "hot" water will come from the copper pipe on the left and the "cold" water will come from the copper pipe on the right side. The two larger black pipes above, hold the sink in place.
And finally, the most important room in the entire school, the bathroom!

This photo shows the plumbing behind the wall of a toilet. You can see the black pipe where "you know what" goes! The four threaded rods hold the toilet in place and the copper tube is the water supply that feeds the toilet water when you flush the toilet!
