TITLE I
What Is Title I?
1. Title I is part of the No Child Left Behind legislation that provides supplemental federal funding for low-achieving children in schools that provide free and reduced lunches for disadvantaged students.
2. Title I is a program that provides extra-academic support and learning opportunities for children farthest from meeting challenging state standards.
What is the purpose of Title I?
1. Provide extra services to eligible students
2. Ensure all children meet standards, particularly those most at risk
3. Ensure assessments, curriculum, instructional materials, and teacher training are aligned to challenging academic standards
4. Close the achievement gap
5. Promote school-wide reform
6. Afford parents substantial and meaningful opportunities to participate
How does the money get to my school district?

b. Children with limited English proficiency
c. Children who are homeless

1. Parental involvement is an important component of Title I. Parents are needed for the following activities:
a. Planning
b. Policy
c. Participation
d. Partnering
e. Program Evaluation
What about accountability?
1. Title I requires states to develop standards and assessments that will challenge students served by Title I programs to perform at high levels.
2. Research suggests that high standards, when coupled with valid and reliable assessments and aligned support, can exert a powerful influence over what children are taught and how much they learn.
