Did you take dual credit courses while at LHS?

The post-secondary school you plan to attend will require an official transcript FROM the college/university in which you earned the dual credit (not your LHS transcript). If you took dual credit courses from multiple colleges, you will need to fill out a transcript request for each school from which you earned dual credit. (Please contact the specific college that your child is considering to discover their policy on transfer credits. A helpful resource for exploring transfer of credits among colleges is Transferin.net.)

Frequently Asked Questions about Transcripts

Q: How do I know which high school courses I took for dual credit?

A: Look at your final LHS transcript to see which courses you took for dual credit. If you earned dual credit, you will see a college name and course number after the LHS course title. If that information is not present, you did not earn college credit for the class.

Q: What about AP classes?

A: AP classes are handled differently than dual college credit. To transfer your AP credits, you must log in to your College Board account and request your AP scores be sent to your college. Remember, only scores from 3-5 result in college credit. Scores lower than a 3 do not need to be reported to your school.

Q: When do I need to request my college transcripts?

A: They should be available after graduation. You should also make a list of all dual credits earned (with college and course number-found on your transcript) and bring it with you to your college orientation/registration. Make sure your advisor knows of all dual credit courses taken prior to registering for fall classes. You don’t want to sign up for a class you received college credit for in high school!

Q: How do I get college credit for my PLTW Biomed courses?

A: Biomed courses are not considered dual college credit and will not appear on your transcript in the same way other courses do. Most colleges will award credit, but their requirements will vary among colleges. If you earn a score of 6 or higher on your ECA, IUPUI will give you credit for the course. You will need to check with the college you are attending to as to whether or not they will award you credit for the course and their requirements.
